Welcome back. First and foremost i would like to explain what a fragment sentence really is. Think of a fragment sentence as a dependent clause, it isnt exactly a complete though. A complete sentence includes a subject,verb, and is a complete thought. A fragment sentence lacks one of those two. Dependent clauses lack a complete thought. Fragment sentences can express a complete thought but can lack something that makes them a complete sentence.
Tip- The way to fix a fragment is by either using a comma-splice or a subordinating conjunction and combining the fragment with an independent clause. If you're supposed to be identifying a fragment just remember what a sentence is (A subject, verb, and a complete thought) and if you find a sentence without those things, it's a fragment.
Just a little hint of the grade you'll get when you start to understand these things more in english class.
Run-on sentences are like the opposites of fragment sentences. You get a run-on sentence when you combine two complete sentences without using any sort of puncuation.
An example of a run on would be: "I hate to watch Twilight it is really stupid.". The example shown has two complete sentences that are "I hate to watch Twilight." and "It is really stupid.". Why is it a run-on? Because it combined two complete sentences without puncuating them at all.
Tip: A way to fix a run-on such as the one above would be by using a semicolon or a coordinating conjunction. The way to use a semicolon in that sentence would be "I hate to watch Twilight;It is really stupid. If you used a coordinating conjunction it would be something like "I hate to watch twlight,for it is stupid."
A comma splice is when you place a comma where its not needed or theres more needed to place it. These only apply to compound sentences.
Tip:A way to fix these is by using a fanboy (Coordinating conjunction) in the sentence to fix the error.
Example: He enjoys walking through the country,he eats waffles on the weekend. (Incorrect)
Correct: He enjoys waking through the country,and he eats on the weekend. (Correct)
